Radiology clinics are rarely remembered for how they made someone feel; unless that feeling was cold, clinical, or overwhelming. But Bay Radiology and Jigsaw Architects set out to change that. The vision was clear: build a diagnostic imaging centre that felt calm, content, and almost homelike.
Instead of a sterile white box, the team designed a space that puts people first. Materials, textures, lighting, and acoustics all played a part. And from the moment dbsorb was brought in, their acoustic systems helped carry that vision through with softness and precision.
Where dbsorb made a difference
dbsorb's acoustic systems were used throughout the clinic, including in key areas like the waiting rooms, open-plan offices, and the building’s central atrium.
The goal wasn’t just to control noise. It was to add a sensory warmth. dbsorb's felted finishes brought softness to the walls and ceilings while reducing echo and harshness. Their designs provided colour, texture, and calm in one solution.
Just as importantly, the systems used no adhesives or VOCs. Everything was installed using dbsorb's mechanical clip system, making the panels easy to reposition in the future with minimal disruption.
Thoughtful details across every zone
Atrium feature battens
One of the standout design elements in the building is the set of vertical acoustic battens in the open atrium. These fins stretch from the bottom floor to the top, drawing the eye upward and connecting both levels of the space.
The battens were designed to mimic the look of timber, but are made from lightweight, fire-resistant acoustic panels. This made installation safer and more efficient. Hidden fixings and integrated lighting gave the final look a refined, intentional finish that also supports the acoustic goals of the space.
Waiting area transitions
In the main waiting zone, the architect needed to define different areas without building solid walls. The solution combined custom carpet zoning with dbsorb's ceiling and wall panels, arranged in matching grooves to create a seamless flow.
The fins curve from wall to ceiling, helping lower the height visually. This makes the space feel more intimate, without enclosing it. The engraved panel details offered a subtle but refined design element, while still delivering acoustic performance in a high-traffic area.
Open-plan call centre
Bay Radiology’s operations include a busy call centre. Instead of traditional offices, they opted for an open-plan layout to promote equality and collaboration. Acoustics became a priority from day one.
Rather than using just standard ceiling tiles, dbsorb created a floating ceiling baffle system that mounted directly into the suspended grid. These fins act as both a visual feature and a sound absorber. Their design hides the support rails, keeping the look clean and consistent across the space.
Installed fast, built to adapt
The clinic was delivered under a tight construction schedule, and with 348 m² of wall product and 191 m² of bespoke ceiling elements to install, the dbsorb team focused on precision and speed. The glue-free mounting system meant no drying time, no fumes, and no mess. Installers worked quickly and cleanly, keeping up with the pace of the wider fitout.
Future-proofing was a key benefit. Because dbsorb's panels are mechanically fixed, they can be easily removed and repositioned without damage. This gives the clinic flexibility to adapt rooms as technology or workflows change.
Feedback from the architect
“Amazing experience. We were impressed with the speed and detail of dbsorb's response, especially under tight deadlines. From our technical concept to first contact in two hours. Fast manufacturing, flexible throughout the project, and always willing to offer solutions.”

Quiet confidence, built into every detail
This new Bay Radiology clinic shows how thoughtful design can shift the way people experience healthcare spaces. The layout feels intuitive. The materials are soft, warm, and calming. The acoustics are finely tuned for privacy, comfort, and productivity.
dbsorb was proud to play a part in bringing that vision to life.
